Our summer challenge for our befrienders and young people is taking place. We give participating befriending pairs a £2 coin and each pair use the money to make money for two rural schools in Malawi and their young people.
Every penny made goes directly to the schools, thanks to the charity SCOTIA Education Trust for Africa.
We ran the same challenge in 2017 and raised £114, which was used to buy 15 solar lamps. These lamps enabled pupils of the school to complete homework tasks in the evening as houses do not have electricity. There is ample sun during the day to charge the lamps but it is dark at 6pm and the lamps made a welcome change from candlelight.
