Annual General Meeting 2022
Befrienders, staff, trustees and guests enjoyed catching up on the charity’s work over the past year when the AGM was held at the Dumfries Baptist Church Centre. David Miller, Chair, provided an overall report and as treasurer, Derek Heron provided a summary of the financial statements – both reports being very positive and well received. Alex Dickson, Project Manager, then described the year’s activities, how the challenges and restrictions brought about by the covid pandemic were thankfully easing – and also of the wonderful work carried out by the volunteer befrienders. Alex is retiring in July and his successor, Helen McAnespie, is looking forward to continuing the vital work in supporting young people reach their potential. Alex was thanked for his significant contribution over recent years and Helen was warmly welcomed to the team.
At the end of the AGM, a presentation was made to Doug Kerr, Trustee (and former befriender) for his excellent achievement in reaching the peak of all inhabited islands around Scotland – his ’93 Islands’ Challenge’. Doug raised around £18,000 to be split between three most worthwhile causes, the Befriending Project being one of them. Tremendous effort Doug.
